Justin, we need to have a talk. You see, I'm pro-choice, although judging by the rhetoric above I'd be willing to bet you would classify me as 'pro-abortion' or 'pro-death'. The words don't matter for the purpose of this discussion.
We need to have a talk about why there is any 'discussion' in the first place about abortion, or even if a 'discussion' can take place.
I put discussion in quotes because every debate I've had about abortion has never been a debate. I'd state my position, my reasons, my outlook on life, and then the 'abortion is murder' declaration comes out from the other side and from that point on, well, there's no point in talking about it, is there?
The problem is one of perspective. To me, abortion is a choice to be made, in a serious mind, a heavy option but an option nonetheless.
Once those words pass my lips, suddenly, in your eyes, I'm an advocate for murder. Not just any old murder, but bloody, torturous decapitations and limb removals, aided and abetted by some filthy Mengele who dares to call himself a doctor.
Whereas to me, it's an abortion.
Now let me throw some more wood on the fire and state that I and my now-fiancee procured an abortion two years ago. Do she and I both deserve to spend the rest of our lives in jail? Perhaps execution is what is mandated? After all, remember, this is first-degree aggravated murder in your eyes, is it not? Fully equivalent to tying down and dismembering anyone walking around on the street.
So in the end, is there any point to the abortion discussion? It's plain you will never alter your position, that you argue from inflexible absolutist principles, that I am nothing more or less than a killer in your eyes, so why on Earth should I ever engage in the kind of discussion I'm attempting right now?
Anonymous, for a real discussion I wish you would post with some sort of name, but that is another discussion altogether.
If we were to have such a discussion as you request, I would not vilify you call you a murderer or declare that you should be in prison. Yes, I do obviously believe that abortion kills unborn babies. This comes from my own refections as you believes come from yours. For instance, were you aware that a baby's heart starts beating at 18 days past conception? I believe we should make facts such as these more aware to Americans.
Nonetheless, the real problem is the state sponsorship if abortion. The real heart of the article talks about the unconstitutional nature of the Roe v. Wade decision. The fact that our highest court has declared a Constitutional right to procure an abortion is utterly ridiculous, and wholly creating any other right except by the process of amending the Constitution would also be ridiculous.
Not only does it seem to be state sponsored murder to me, it is also, factually, the usurpation of the people's constitutional power by a few activist judges.
